KÁRPÁT Vasút Vasútüzemi Szolgáltató Korlátolt Felelősségű Társaság (KÁRPÁT Railways Railway Operation Services Limited Liability Company) or KÁRPÁT Vasút Kft. for short (hereinafter referred to as the Company) was founded by 4 private persons and a legal entity in January 2008. By today, the ownership structure has somewhat changed, but the current owners still belong to the founders.

The Company is a fully Hungarian-owned profit-oriented business association with a domestic registered seat in Hungary and core activities focusing on railway services.

KÁRPÁT Vasút Kft. was given its operating license in 2009 by the National Transport Authority for the provision of railway traction services nationwide. In possession of this operating license, the Company secured its railway safety certificate in April 2010 for the first time. To issue the railway safety certificate, the National Transport Authority assessed and ensured that the Company is capable of meeting all the requirements with respect to operations on the national railway network.
Before the procedure for the renewal of the railway safety certificate, the Company’s owners decided to expand the scope of activities performed as a railway company. In the owners’ decision, the Company had the intention to be involved in national railway freight forwarding activities in addition to the provision of traction services.
